Why did we choose to embark on our journey with the Miniature Australian Shepherd/Miniature American Shepherd or 'Mini Aussie' instead of staying with just the standard sized Australian Shepherds?
Why a Miniature?
❤️If you already love the devotion, enthusiasm and smart thinking of the Aussie; think of getting all that in a slightly smaller package. Does the idea of less fur all over your home, or fitting more Aussies into your car, appeal to you?
If so, then the Mini Aussie version may be an option for you.
❤️All our Australian Shepherd & Mini Aussie adult dogs are DNA tested for over 250 genetic diseases that can affect canines. In addition to testing their coat traits for complementing features in our Australian Shepherd puppies. All puppies come with a 5 year health guarantee. Many breeders choose a 1 year health guarantee, and you may have a set of specific 'conditions' you need to meet, otherwise your guarantee is void. Our guarantee is never void. What about all that fur?
❤️Not all Aussies have the same level of hair growth. But they do all have an undercoat that protects their bodies. Their special coat is their temperature regulation, along with being water & dirt repellent. An Aussie at the lake getting wet or splashing through mud puddles, will be a tangled mess of water and dirt, or are they really? Let that Aussie run around on dry land for about 30min and you have a pretty dry doggo. Most of the dirt has been shed from their Aussie coat. Add a quick brush through and they are as good as new! Aussies have what we call a 'wash and wear' fur coat.
Do Mini Aussies Shed a Lot?
❤️ With one look at their thick, weather-resistant double coat, you can probably come to your own conclusion that Mini Australian Shepherds do indeed shed. Twice a year, you can expect shedding to increase as they go through their bi-annual shedding exhibition. If you prefer to keep your home as dog hair-free as possible, it can be incredibly helpful to schedule an appointment at the groomer as soon as you notice this shed cycle beginning. Twice a year take them in and let your professional groomer pull out all that shedding undercoat with their special 'magical' tools. In addition, weekly brushing sessions are a nice bonding time with your pup.

How Much Do They Need?
❤️ Miniature Australian Shepherds need daily interaction with their 'pack' family. Without this connection and inclusiveness, your Aussie may start to develop Anxiety and destructive behaviors. They want to follow you everywhere you go and watch everything you do. If you are an active person, or have a busy family, taking your pup with you everywhere you go will make them just as happy as can be. They love to be on the go as long as they are with you. Miniature Australian Shepherds are fantastic family dogs. These pups enjoy the company of children and can thrive in an active home. If you’re looking for a companion that can keep up with the kids, join your family for a hike, but then relax next to your feet at the end of the day, this may be the perfect breed for you.
Fun Facts About Aussies
❤️MAS? Did you know that the Miniature American Shepherd is a 'NEW BREED' that the AKC created for Miniature Australian Shepherds in 2015. Most Mini Aussie stock dogs in this generation have been registered now for over 19 years through the American Stock Dog Association, ASDR. ASDR was started to create another outlet for breeders and owners to register their Miniature Australian Shepherd dogs and litters, with a vision to go further and provide shows that include performance events along with conformation for the smaller sized stock dogs in the United States. Mini and Toy Aussie breeders chose to drop their AKC registry on their litters, 20 years ago, when they started using ASDR. The ASDR registry was specifically created to meet the need of the smaller stock dog breeds. The Mini Aussie foundation dogs used in this registry come from smaller AKC registered Australian Shepherds.
❤️SIZES? Australian Shepherd Dog SIZES, height refers to measurement from the floor to their withers:
Toy: 10"-14" Tall; Usually under 20lbs
Miniature: 14"-18" Tall; Usually between 20-40lbs.
Standard: 18"-23" Tall; Usually 40-60lbs.
❤️What COLOR do you prefer? By far, the majority of Americans are in love with the iconic Blue Merle and Black Tri Aussies. Genetically, these are the dominant Aussie colors, but even more rare and majestic are the recessive Red Merle and Red Tri coat colors!
From the Australian Shepherd Club of America (ASCA): The breed standards state “All colors are strong, clear and rich. The recognized colors are blue merle, red (liver) merle, solid black, and solid red (liver) all with or without white markings and/or tan (copper) points with no order of preference.
❤️SOLID OR PATTERNED? Aussies come in solid and merle coat patterns plus Miniature Australian Shepherds are either red or black- Doesn't that seem simple? Genetically, yes, their coat colors are very simple compared to other breeds. What adds for great combinations is the coat patterns and trim color.

A MALE Aussie says “I Love You"
Both males and females make great companions and/or family members and each dog will be an individual.
FEMALES: Many people believe that female dogs make better pets. Most of the calls we receiving asking about our pups are wanting a "sweet little girl". They don't think females display alpha behavior like "marking" and/or "humping". They believe that they are docile and attentive and do not participate in fighting for dominance. This couldn't be further from the truth!
In the 'dog pack' makeup, females usually rule the roost, they take life a bit more seriously, determine pecking order and compete to maintain and/or alter that order. The females are, as a result, more independent, stubborn and territorial than their male counterparts. If you have several females, they may be more likely to have issues with each other than several boys do. Most fights will usually break out between two females.
MALES on the other hand are usually more affectionate, exuberant, attentive and more desiring to please. They are very attached to their people. They also tend to be more steadfast, reliable and less moody. They are more outgoing, more accepting of other pets, playful for more years and take quicker to children. Most boys are easily motivated by food and praise and are so eager to please that training is easy. Boys are fun loving until the day they die. Females tend to be more reserved or dignified as they age. Neutered males rarely exhibit undesirable secondary behavior such as "humping" or "marking" and lifting of legs. If neutered when young, less than 9 months, they tend not to have any of these less desirable male behaviors at all.
